National Day and Malaysia Day 2021 Celebrations at AEON – Simple Yet Meaningful

Kuala Lumpur, 31 August 2021

AEON CO. (M) BHD. (AEON or the Company) celebrates the National Day and Malaysia Day this year together with its employees and customers in a simple yet meaningful way.

On 31 August 2021 at exactly 12.00 noon, all activities at AEON supermarkets nationwide came to a standstill for two minutes with everyone standing up upon hearing Negaraku being played. It was to honour the national anthem that signified a symbolic act of celebrating the National Day and Malaysia Day 2021 as well as expressing their love for the country.

The Negaraku was proudly sang at all 28 AEON Malls, 34 AEON Stores, 22 AEON BiG, 9 MaxValu Prime, 65 AEON Wellness and 42 DAISO nationwide by thousands of AEON Warriors and AEON customers simultaneously. This proves that despite being separated by district and state borders, the rakyat are united in togetherness in remembering this historic day.

The celebration was carried out in full compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) set by the Government such as wearing of face masks and physical distancing.

Shafie Shamsuddin, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of AEON said, “This year’s National Day is a bit different as it is not only about the spirit of nationalism, but it is also about being free from the pandemic.

With increased vaccination rates, we are now on the right track to achieve herd immunity. We would like to take this opportunity to extend our infinite gratitude to all AEON Warriors, business partners as well as AEON customers who have been with us in fighting this outbreak.”

“Let us all be GRATEFUL for being able to celebrate these meaningful moments, remain steadfast to FIGHT the current challenges, and RISE to build the country for a better tomorrow,” remarked Shafie.

According to Dr. Kasuma Satria Mat Jadi, Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Corporate Communications of AEON, “We strive to play our role in fostering patriotism among customers, especially the younger generation. This is in line with AEON’s effort to champion the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 16) which promote a peaceful, just and inclusive society in ensuring sustainable development.”

“In this regard, to further enliven this year’s celebration, AEON Mall Shah Alam installed a giant QR Code measuring 1,000 square feet located at the Centre Court from now until 16 September 2021. Upon scanning using smartphones, customers will have the opportunity to enjoy a contemporary patriotic song co-produced by AEON and Awi Rafael entitled ‘Ayuh Kita Merdeka 2.0′ sung by Aiman Tino, Mimy Fly and several others,” added Dr. Kasuma. This year’s National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations will carve a history in AEON’s milestone once verified in the near future by the Malaysia Book of Records as the ‘Most Number of Outlets Participating in National Anthem Singing Simultaneously’.

In conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2021 celebrations, AEON organises a sales campaign from 27 August to 16 September themed ‘Bersyukur, Berjuang, Bangkit’ in encouraging the rakyat to be grateful, to remain steadfast in fighting the pandemic and rise to build the nation for a better tomorrow.
