Corporate Profile & Governance

AEON continues to be a leader in sustainability, corporate philanthropy and customer happiness. It’s all part of our unwavering commitment to creating opportunities and bringing value to customers and communities wherever we go.

Our Company

In June 1985, JAYA JUSCO Dayabumi opened its doors. It marked our first pilot store in Malaysia. 6 months later, our second store, JAYA JUSCO Taman Tun Dr. Ismail was opened. And from that, we carried on, opening store after store, shaping the retail landscape of Malaysia along the way.

In 1996, we achieved a milestone. JAYA JUSCO STORES SDN. BHD was listed on the Main Board of the Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange and renamed to JAYA JUSCO STORES BHD. Subsequently, the company name was officially changed to AEON CO. (M) BHD. in September 2004.

This new name marked a significant turn for us. Derived from the Latin word that means eternity, it emboldened our philosophy of continuously and perpetually putting our customers first.

Our Ethics & Governance

Our philosophy of “Customers first” extends to the way we govern where we put people first, to ensure a sustainable future for the Company.

The Board of Directors (The Board) of AEON Co. (M) Bhd. is committed to implementing good governance ethics in all that they do and is committed to ensuring the sustainability of the Company’s business through good corporate governance.

As promulgated by the Malaysian Code of Corporate Governance 2017, the Board has adopted a Board Charter that serves as our guide. Rooted in principles of good corporate governance and the requirements of MMLR of Bursa Securities, the Board Charter clearly sets out the roles, functions, composition, operations and processes of the Board.

At AEON, we take sustainability seriously. In 2020, we established the Sustainability Steering Committee to pioneer and implement our sustainable strategy. Led by the CEO or Managing Director, its role is supported by the Sustainability Working Committee that is headed by the CHRO.

Beyond that, The Board’s responsibility includes ensuring measures for systems and processes are in place and this is supported by the Audit Risk Management Committee.

All these reflect our goal of sustaining prosperity and longevity for the business and the people who make up the business.

Code of Conduct

The AEON Code of Conduct, or ACOC in short, serves as a guide for all our employees to act consistently, in every nation that we are in. Rooted in AEON’s basic values, the ACOC steers the actions of our employees, wherever we operate around the world. The purpose of the ACOC does not waver from the company’s mission, of putting our customers first.

We are dedicated to doing business in the right and ethical way. From the Board, Management, employees and related stakeholders, all in our employment are expected to comply with the ACOC’s standards for corporate behaviour.

It also provides employees a safe platform for whistleblowing, allowing employees a safe channel to raise concerns about illegal or unethical conduct, sexual or power harassment and other malpractices at the workplace.
