Launch of Karnival Bumi Kenyalang AEON Initiative to Elevate the Values of Malaysia’s Local Products

An initiative to generate the income of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) post Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO)

NILAI, 22 September 2020 

Karnival Bumi Kenyalang held from 14th September 2020 until 30th September 2020 at AEON Mall Nilai. This program is a collaboration between AEON Retail Malaysia, Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA), Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal & Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MINTRED) and Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC). This event highlights products and services from 29 well-known Sarawak entrepreneurs. This 16 days-carnival will also feature the beauty of Sarawak traditional dance and art.

Yang Berhormat Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, Minister of Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs officiated the event today. Datuk Seri Haji Hasnol Zam Zam, Chief Secretary of KPDNHEP, Yang Berhormat Datuk Haji Mohd Naroden, Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal & Entrepreneur Development (MINTRED), Datuk Iskandar Sarudin, Chairman of AEON CO. (M) BHD., Shafie Shamsuddin, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AEON Retail Malaysia and Dr. Kasuma Satria, Chief Human Resources Officer and Director of Corporate Communication of AEON Retail Malaysia were also present.

YB Datuk Alexander in his speech, “By building and strengthening the domestic economic sectors, we can minimize the impact of external economic factors, hence expediting the recovery of our country’s economy. Karnival Bumi Kenyalang, which is a part of Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia (KBBM), is one of the examples whereby we want to create the awareness of local products by empowering our local entrepreneurs to go outside of their area and share the beauty and specialty of the products and services within domestic market.”

Shafie Shamsuddin said, “AEON is very grateful for being given the opportunity to be part of the government initiatives to support and alleviate the local entrepreneurs. It is one of AEON core values that we are always committed to support our local community growth and act as a good corporate citizen in serving the society. We welcome any local entrepreneurs to be part of this journey with us.”

Karnival Bumi Kenyalang is an effort from AEON Retail Malaysia, Federal and Sarawak’s government to provide a platform for the local entrepreneurs to spur the local spending among the consumers and subsequently contribute the economic recovery. AEON which has always been very supportive to support the local SME growth has also organized “Program Prihatin AEON Bersama Perusahaan Kecil dan Sederhana (PKS)” from 27th June 2020 until 30th September 2020 in 7 selected AEON Malls in the country.
