Kuala Lumpur, 7 July 2022 – AEON CO. (M) BHD. or AEON continues to add more feathers to its cap after being recognised with the CEO of the Year and the Sustainability Initiative of the Year – Malaysia at the 17th Retail Asia Awards 2022.

Throughout the years, AEON supports local communities and businesses, a spirit that is driven by its emphasis on sustainability. One of the company’s core beliefs is that a sustainable business is one that not only prioritises financial returns, but also protects the environment, nurtures its employees and uplifts its communities and ecosystems.

AEON continues its sustainability efforts with excellence through the guidance and leadership of Shafie Shamsuddin, the then Managing Director/Chief Executive of AEON. His visions set him and the company apart from their competition through initiatives that sought to pull the company through the effects of the pandemic whilst also fulfilling their corporate social responsibility, making him to be recognized as the CEO of The Year by Retail Asia Awards 2022.

According to Keiji Ono, Managing Director of AEON, “We are grateful for every success the company has enjoyed during his tenure as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. He steered AEON to become more customer, technologically driven, and market-focused, as AEON’s business operations and organisational culture became more centred on delivering sustainability,”

The Retail Asia Awards is an initiative to gather the region’s best retail companies and honour their outstanding retail projects with a prestigious accolade. This year’s instalment recognised over 50 retail companies from 18 countries that went beyond their capabilities in delivering quality experience to their customers.

The event honoured these companies in a prestigious awards programme held through digital award presentations on 27 June to 1 July and studio award presentations in Singapore on 4 July.

This year’s entries were reviewed by an esteemed panel of judges, which includes EY Asean Consumer Products and Retail Leader Olivier Gergele, KPMG Head of Consumer & Retail, ASPAC & Head of Technology, Media & Telecoms, Hong Kong Anson Bailey, RSM Singapore Partner, F&B, Retail and Consumer Products David Eu, Euromonitor International Senior Consultant Hianyang Chan, and PwC Asia Pacific, Mainland China and Hong Kong Consumer Markets Leader Michael Cheng.
