AEON Uphold United Nations Sustainable Development Goals No.8 Through Mak Cun, Anjung Orang Kita Telemovie

AEON Retail Malaysia is upholding United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8 by collaborating with a renowned TV3 character, Mak Cun. Mak Cun Anjung Orang Kita telemovie is highlighting AEON’s empowerment for its local Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) amid the pandemic which has caused hardships to many local entrepreneurs and led to an unemployment rate of 4.7% as reported by Department of Statistics Malaysia.

One of the SDG8 targets is to promote development-oriented policies that supports productive activities, decent job creations, entrepreneurships, creativity and innovation; and encourage the formalization and growth of micro-, small- and medium-sized enterprises.

As part of the initiative to promote entrepreneurship and growth of SMEs, AEON is taking it to the next level by collaborating with Mak Cun both in telemovie and physical space. This marks another milestone for AEON to welcome SMEs nationwide to be a part of AEON. AEON currently has more than 50 retail chain outlets under multiple brand flagship.

AEON Retail Malaysia CEO, Shafie Shamsuddin said, This telemovie is our call to action for our own AEON People to step up and open our hearts to support our local community and those people in need. As AEON, we are very grateful that we have the capacity to bring inclusivity of local community to the economic development by providing a platform, both online and physical stores.

AEON has always been working closely with Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) to empower Malaysian SMEs through programs such as Buy Malaysia Campaign, Bumi Kenyalang Carnival and Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) Entrepreneur Program.

AEON collaboration with MDTCA and Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entreprenuer Development Sarawak (MINTRED) for the Bumi Kenyalang Carnival took place from 14th September to 30th September 2020 at AEON Mall Nilai where AEON hosted 26 Sarawak entrepreneurs. This collaboration managed to secure more than RM350 thousand total sales in the two weeks campaign.

AEON also supported MARA via opening 5 of its malls to 29 MARA entrepreneurs for 3 months to come in, showcase, promote and sell their products, to which they managed to secure a total of RM1.6 million sales in that period.

To date, AEON has more than 170 SME entrepreneurs who are already a part of AEON partners retailing in all AEON outlets. In addition, Mak Cun Anjung Orang Kita booths are also available at AEON BiG Wangsa Maju and AEON Shah Alam.

Mak Cun telemovie character is a high-spirited local entrepreneur that sells beauty creams and her journey inspires other women to grab opportunities. Starring Erma Fatima, Aiman Tino, Dato’ Aaron Aziz, Arash Mohamad, Datuk Rahim Razali, Azad Jasmin and Fazlina Ahmad Daud, Mak Cun Anjung Orang Kita telemovie will be aired on TV3 on Sunday, 25th October 2020 at 9pm.
