Kuala Lumpur, 9 December 2023 – The Malaysia AEON Foundation (MAF) recently spread festive cheer by hosting a heartwarming shopping experience for approximately 100 children from underprivileged families at AEON Mall Kuching Central, Sarawak. This initiative is a key component of the MAF AEON Mesra Program, designed with the mission of sharing joy during the multi-ethnic festival season with children in need across Malaysia.

In this program, MAF collaborates closely with Pusat Khidmat ADUN N7 Samariang in identifying over 50 families under the B40 category from areas such as Kampung Semerah Padi, Kampung Siol Kandis, Kampung Siol Batu, Bandar Baru Samariang, and other nearby communities.

Each child from the family receives an allocation of RM200 to shop for their festive preparations, accompanied by an additional RM50 “duit raya.” The shopping session was assisted by volunteers from MAF, AEON Mall Kuching Central, and AEON’s management. The session also participated by Keiji Ono, Vice President of MAF and Dr. Kasuma Satria bin Mat Jadi, Secretary of MAF.

Following the shopping session, all families were treated to a delightful lunch at Grand Continental Hotel Kuching, where they received an additional RM150 and homeboxes containing daily essential goods. The program was graced by the presence of Datuk Snowdan Lawan, Deputy Minister for Creative Industry & Performing Arts, Sarawak.

Dr. Kasuma Satria, expressed gratitude, stating, “We are grateful to share this joyful moment with the children. Festivals are meant for universal happiness, and today is undoubtedly a special day for them. We hope that this assistance brings joy and hope, creating more smiles and connecting more hearts.”

In addition to AEON Mall Kuching Central, the AEON Mesra Christmas campaign also celebrated at AEON Bukit Mertajam, AEON Melaka Shopping Centre, AEON BiG Ampang, AEON BiG Bukit Rimau, and AEON BiG Subang Jaya, with a total contribution of approximately RM60,000.

The AEON Mesra campaign, initiated by MAF in 2005, aims to alleviate the burdens faced by underprivileged families and children during festive seasons such as Chinese New Year, Hari Raya, Deepavali, and Christmas. The program provides children from needy families with a joyful shopping experience at selected AEON stores or AEON BiG outlets, ensuring they receive festival clothes and essential items.
