AEON HOMETOWN FOREST PROGRAM HERALDS AEON MALL IPOH, KLEBANG OPENING ON 21 OCTOBER, 2015

Klebang, Perak, 12 September 2015

In keeping with the AEON tradition, 13,000 trees were planted today in a Pre-Opening celebration to mark the opening of AEON Mall Ipoh, Klebang on 21 October. This latest addition will be AEON’s 31st outlet and its 23rd AEON Mall in Malaysia.

Guest of Honour, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Abdul Latif Bin Mohmod, Director General, Forest Research Institute was joined in the Mall’s Pre-Launch Tree Planting Ceremony by more than 800 participants. They comprise of nature enthusiasts, environmentalists, local communities, government officials, AEON business partners and the AEON Family.

The other volunteer guests were school children from Sek. Keb. Haji Mahmud, Sek. Keb. Seri Kelebang, Sek. Keb. Kelebang Jaya, SJK (T) Kelebang and SJK (C) Poi Lam, the local police and fire officers, local government agencies and officials from Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh.

The aim of the AEON Hometown Forest Program is to not only conserve the biodiversity of the area and but also create community awareness of the importance of preserving indigenous tree species.

Today, more than 30 species of indigenous trees and shrubs were planted around the Mall’s premises. Included were Gaharu, Katong Laut, Kenanga, Cengal, Sepetir Daun Lebai as well as local fruit trees and herbal plants.

AEON Hometown Forest Program, was first introduced in 1991 by AEON founder Mr. Takuya Okada in AEON Ayer Keroh (now known as AEON Mall Melaka). This Tree-Planting Initiative has since been AEON’s commitment towards helping to revive nature to create a more natural and healthier environment for future generations.

“Today our Earth’s resources and the environment are being seriously threatened. With the world’s forest being destroyed by man and natural disasters, a harmonious coexistence between nature and human becomes a global challenge. We applaud AEON for organizing public initiatives such as this to create awareness and in bringing environmentalists together to help create a greener community,” said Guest of Honour, Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Dr. Abdul Latif Bin Mohmod.

Representing AEON CO. (M) BHD at the Tree Planting Ceremony was, Managing Director Puan Nur Qamarina Chew.

“It is indeed heartwarming to see the various communities, of all ages in Klebang support us in today’s Tree Planting Ceremony. On behalf of AEON I wish to thank you for joining us and making the day even more memorable. The Tree-Planting Initiative is AEON’s way of giving back to the Klebang community a greener community,” said Puan Nur Qamarina.

AEON has planted over 10 million trees worldwide. AEON CO. (M) BHD alone has planted approximately 0.5 million trees in Malaysia. Some of AEON’s key milestones in the past 24 years include:

  • Mangrove Tree Planting in Port Dickson
  • Melaka River Tree Planting
