AEON ENRICHES LIFESTYLE IN BUKIT MERTAJAM WITH THE OPENING OF THEIR SECOND MALL IN PENANG

Malaysia’s leading retailer, AEON CO. (M) BHD (AEON), today officially opened its doors to the community of Bukit Mertajam. Marking the 28th outlet in Malaysia, AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam will further continue AEON’s effort in enriching lives and intertwining with the people and community they are in. With an investment of RM253 million, the mall will be a one-stop destination that provides customers with a unique shopping experience.

“Unlike other hypermarkets or modern trade outlets, AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam is designed to provide shoppers with an array of quality products in an enjoyable atmosphere, giving them choice, convenience and comfort. This will be our first stand alone mall in Penang,” said Nur Qamarina Chew, Managing Director of AEON CO. (M) BHD, at the official opening of the mall.

AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam will retain AEON’s pride of providing invaluable amenities such as comfortable benches for shoppers needing a little rest, conveniently located ‘surau’, free wireless Internet connection, and “Kidzone” interactive playground and play areas, for shoppers’ ease, peace of mind and delight. The mall is also proud of continuing AEON’s signature tradition of setting up library carrying children’s book for the children to read while their parents shop. The library is collaboration with the Penang State Library.

“AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam will also be introducing a prepaid system at the Food Avenue where by customers need to reload their card at the cashier counter before purchasing their food at the stalls,” added Nur Qamarina Chew.

The mall will also feature Bazaar Seni, the first of its kind to support the local entrepreneurs by allocating special areas in the mall to sell and promote the local SME products such as Malaysian ‘batik’, ‘baju kurung’ and crafts.

Going beyond retail and shopping experience, AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam also enriches the community it is in by creating job opportunities to the local folks. “With the opening of our mall, we have created over 1000 new jobs and set up a career development program to ensure that our personnel are well trained and retained,” said Nur Qamarina Chew.

Each of the four floors in AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam is designed with different concepts and themes. The ground floor is all about lifestyle presenting trendy and vibrant way of life with a touch of International brands with outlets such as UNIQLO, Trio, Poh Kong and Kenny Rogers Roasters. With a family concept focusing on health and beauty, the first floor features Skin Renew, Bluunis, Dorra, Takasima, Fitness Concept and City Chain. The second floor, with a futuristic theme provides for the children and geeks. Here you can find Popular, Young Heart and Sushi King. The third floor is all about entertainment having a cinema and amusement park. For the convenience of shoppers, the mall provides approximately 2500 parking bays.

The mall is built on 19.3 acres of land and is surrounded by more than 60 species of trees and shrubs, such as hopea odorata, tabebuia pallida, alstonia scholaris, and dyera costulata, which were selected in order to maintain and preserve the ecosystem of the area. These plants were planted by approximately one thousand nature enthusiast and environmentalist who participated in the recent tree planting initiative by AEON to plant more than 10,000 trees in the mall premises.

For the opening weekend, AEON Mall Bukit Mertajam is having a 10% discount for the following brands Alain Delon, Anakku, Animation World, bhpc, Bum Equipment, Camel Active, Coloris, Dolly, Playboy, Kiki Lala and Technum. The Busana Tradisi Collection – modern ‘baju kurung’ created by Datuk Radzuan Radziwill, will also be available here.

The mall’s operating hours are from 10:00am to 10:00pm from Sunday to Thursday; and 10:00am to 10:30pm on Friday, Saturday and Public Holidays. For more information, log on to AEON Retail’s Facebook page.

Bringing Cheers to the Less Fortunate
To celebrate the true value of Ramadan, AEON presented a total of RM90,000 to five selected homes – Persatuan Kebajikan Sinar Ceria (RM10,000), Persatuan Kebajikan Kanak-kanak Istimewa Daerah Seberang Prai (RM20,000), Persatuan Kanak-kanak Cacat Yee Ran Jing Sheh (RM20,000), Pertubuhan Anak-anak Yatim Bekas Parajurit Malaysia (RM20,000), and Pertubuhan Bela Didik Anak Yatim Islam (BEDAYA) (RM20,000).

Approximately 100 children from Pertubuhan Anak-anak Yatim Bekas Parajurit Malaysia, and Pertubuhan Bela Didik Anak Yatim Islam (BEDAYA), were also presented with ‘duit raya’ worth RM150 each. The children were then treated to a sumptuous Buka Puasa feast at the mall.
