AEON Contributes RM4 Million for Covid-19 Relief Programme ‘Bakul Prihatin Negara’

Kuala Lumpur, 15 July 2021

AEON Group Malaysia presents a contribution of RM4 million to the Government of Malaysia in providing support to Government’s efforts to alleviate the burden of the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The contribution is part of a 350 million yen (equivalent to RM13 million) regional initiative by AEON Co., Ltd. (Japan) that aims to help to protect the safety and security of the people in ASEAN countries in the face of the global pandemic. To this end, AEON Co., Ltd. (Japan) is making donations in support of the COVID-19 vaccination programmes to countries such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia, besides extending support to relief programmes. 

At a ceremony held in Putrajaya earlier today, YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin Yassin, Prime Minister of Malaysia received the contribution from Shafie Shamsuddin, Managing Director of AEON CO. (M). BHD. on behalf of AEON Group Malaysia, in the presence of YB Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development, and His Excellency Hiroshi Oka, Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia. 

AEON will channel the support to the Government of Malaysia through Yayasan Kebajikan Negara, a state welfare foundation that is under the purview of the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. The funds will then be utilised under the Bakul Prihatin Negara programme. 

Shafie said, “On behalf of AEON Co., Ltd (Japan), we would like to express our gratefulness to the Government for the various initiatives undertaken to combat the pandemic as well as caring for the needs of the people particularly through Bakul Prihatin Negara programme. We are also grateful to all the frontliners – from medical, health, safety and security, to social and services including retail people and our AEON Warriors – for their tireless dedication in serving the nation in these trying times.” 

“With the acceleration of the vaccination programme, we are confident that it will bring the pandemic under control so that livelihoods can revive, and businesses will be able to resume. We believe we will be able to regain our confidence and move forward as a society, while supporting those who have been adversely impacted,” added Shafie. 

“In the spirit of succeeding together, AEON Group Malaysia remains steadfast to rally with the Government in ensuring COVID-19 relief and vaccination programmes are successful for the benefits of the people. To that effect, we are offering all 42 of our malls nationwide as food bank locations and COVID-19 vaccination centres”, concluded Shafie.
