AEON BiG Sports and Recreation Club, in collaboration with social enterprise environmental group Impactlution and the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council organised a “Beach Clean Up Day” here at Pantai Remis, Kuala Selangor.

The AEON BiG Sports and Recreation Club, in collaboration with social enterprise environmental group Impactlution and the Kuala Selangor Municipal Council organised a “Beach Clean Up Day” here at Pantai Remis, Kuala Selangor.

The event was attended by 73 staff from AEON BiG, led by Sheikh Farouk Sheikh Mohamed, Managing Director of AEON BiG. Sheikh Farouk was delighted to support the idea proposed by his team and mentioned that it is important that the company plays an active role in the community.

“AEON BiG is more than just a hypermarket and we are glad to bring positive impacts to the community that we serve. Events like this fosters great team spirit among staff regardless of rank, especially when we work together towards a common goal,” he said.

The group cleaned up an area of approximately 1km along the sandy and rocky section of the popular weekend spot. In total, 160.5kg of waste and trash were collected in which 91% of the waste comprised of plastic materials.

Ms Shila Kamal, in her capacity as the President of the AEON BiG Sports and Recreation Club, was satisfied with the event and hope to raise awareness of preserving the environment among AEON BiG staff. “We really wanted to drive home the message that we only have one earth to live in and the responsibility to take care of it is ours.” She adds that there will be more activities of this nature in the future, given the positive and overwhelming response from staff.
